How to Crochet Mini Christmas Stockings
Crocheted Christmas stockings add the perfect homespun touch to a traditional Christmas celebration. Miniature stockings are particularly versatile; they're small enough to be used as Christmas tree ornaments, and can be strung along a mantelpiece or fastened to a garland. They also add a charming, personal touch to a gaily-wrapped holiday gift. Mini stockings are quick and easy to crochet, and they're also economical; one stocking takes only a few yards of regular, medium weight yarn.

Crocheting a Mini Christmas Stocking
-
1
Chain 21; starting in the second chain from the hook, single crochet in each chain. This makes 20 single crochet stitches. Chain one, turn, and single crochet in each stitch across. Repeat this three more times, chaining one at the beginning of each row. In the beginning of the last row, do not chain one; slip stitch in the first stitch, then single crochet in each stitch across until you get to the last stitch. Slip stitch in the last stitch and turn, but do not chain one. This makes a total of five rows, 20 stitches across.

Slip stitch in the same first stitch and in the next three single crochet stitches. Single crochet in the next 12 stitches, then turn. This is the first row of the stocking cuff. Chain one, then single crochet in the next 12 stitches, chain one, and turn. Repeat this until you've made a total of five rows of the stocking cuff.

Fold the stocking in the center, then join the edges by slip stitching all around the stocking until you've reached the point you started from. Cut and tie off; leave a tail to weave in with a yarn needle. Turn the stocking inside out.

Attach the white thread to the center of the stocking top, chain one, and single crochet in each stitch across, then join with a slip stitch to the top of the first chain one stitch. Cut off and tie, leaving a tail to weave in with a yarn needle. Chain 12, then attach this chain with a slip stitch to the back of the stocking top cuff. Slip stitch into the chain one stitch to make a ring; this makes an ornament hanger for your stocking. Cut and tie off, leaving a tail; weave this closely into the chain.
