How to Open PPTX on a Mac
".PPTX" is the file extension for documents created in recent versions of PowerPoint. Your Macintosh may already have the software you need to read or modify this file, depending upon what came pre-installed. Otherwise, you can either purchase software that is compatible with ".PPTX" documents or try free alternatives.

1
Select the document in the Finder and press the "spacebar." This activates the Quick Look function of your Finder and will display most PowerPoint documents in a window centered over the Finder. This is a preview function only; you will not be able to modify the PowerPoint document from this view.

2
Hold down the "Control key" and click on the document's icon. Move the mouse over the "Open With" entry in the drop-down menu, keeping the mouse button pressed. The Finder will display a list of applications that can open PowerPoint documents. Try each of these applications until you find one that works correctly with ".PPTX" files; you may have applications that open the file, but cannot handle its formatting correctly.

3
Install a software package that explicitly works with PowerPoint documents. Microsoft Office for Macintosh includes PowerPoint, making this the best option for complete compatibility, but at a higher price than other choices.

4
Install software that is not explicitly designed to work with PowerPoint but that accommodates ".PPTX" files. The Apple iWork software suite includes Keynote, which can import PowerPoint documents. Or you can try OpenOffice, a free alternative to Microsoft and Apple's offerings that has its own version of PowerPoint, called Impress that can import and open a ".PPTX" file.
