How to Add a Playlist to Your Tumblr Without Autoplay

Grooveshark, MixPod and 8tracks are three Web-based streaming music services that enable you to build a customized playlist that can be embedded on any website, including your Tumblr blog. Each service provides a simple tool for embedding a Flash media player on your website that readers can then use to play back the music on your playlist. By default, none of these playlist autoplay on page load, and readers will need to press the "Play" button on your blog to listen to the playlist.

Grooveshark

  • Navigate to Grooveshark and click "Become a Member" to register for an account.

  • Enter your email address, name and password and then click "Continue." Grooveshark will give you the option to connect your account to Facebook or Google if you wish to share information between Grooveshark and those services.

  • Enter the artist or song title of a track you want to add to your playlist in the search box and then press "Enter."

  • Click the "+" icon beside the song title and select "Add To," "Add to Playlist," then "New Playlist."

  • Type a name for the playlist and then click "Create Playlist."

  • Click the "Search" icon at the top left to find more music to add to your playlist.

  • Click the playlist title in the "Playlists" section of the left sidebar.

  • Click "Share Playlist" and select "Widget."

  • Click "Copy to Clipboard" to copy the HTML code for the Grooveshark playlist widget. You can optionally configure the width, height and color scheme of the widget from this interface.

  • Navigate to Tumblr and sign in to your account.

  • Click "Text" in the new post toolbar.

  • Enter a title for the post and then paste the Grooveshark playlist HTML code in the "Body" of the entry.

  • Click "Create Post."

MixPod

  • Navigate to MixPod.

  • Enter the artist or song title of a track you want to add to your playlist in the search box and then press "Enter."

  • Click the "+" icon beside the song title to add it to your playlist.

  • Search for additional tracks using the search box and add them to your playlist by clicking the "+" icon.

  • Click the "Customize" tab and select the "Skin" you want to use on your playlist.

  • Click the "Colors & Styles" link to edit the color scheme of the skin.

  • Click the "Settings" link to adjust autoplay, shuffle, loop and volume settings of the playlist. Click the "No" radio button beside "Autoplay" to ensure that the playlist does not autoplay when embedded on your Tumblr.

  • Click the "Save Playlist" tab. Enter a playlist title, description, genre and tags and then click "Save (Get Code)."

  • Enter your name, email address, password, birth date and sex and then click "Sign Up."

  • Click "Tumblr" and then copy the HTML code from the "Post Your Playlist to Tumblr" text box.

  • Navigate to Tumblr and sign in to your account.

  • Click "Text" in the new post toolbar.

  • Enter a title for the post and then paste the MixPod playlist HTML code in the "Body" of the entry.

  • Click "Create Post."

8tracks

  • Navigate to 8tracks and click "Sign Up."

  • Enter your username, email address and password and then click "Join Now." Alternatively, if you have a Facebook account, click "Connect With Facebook."

  • Hover over your username in the 8tracks toolbar and click "Create Mix."

  • Click "Upload Tracks" and select the music from your computer you want to include on your playlist. The playlist must have at least 8 tracks and no more than 2 tracks by the same artist.

  • Click "Save and Describe." Enter a title, description, tags and select a photo for your mix and then click "Save."

  • Click the "Tumblr" button to post the mix on your Tumblr blog.

  • Click the "Create Post" button to post the mix to your blog.
