How to Make a Spider Web Out of Cotton Balls
Fake spider webs can add a creepy touch to any setting that requires a spooky atmosphere, such as a scary play, a haunted house or a Halloween party. While you can purchase commercially-produced spider webs from stores, especially during the Halloween season, you can also create your own very inexpensive version by carefully pulling apart common cotton balls. Use one cotton ball to create a small web or several to create larger webs. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Hold a cotton ball between the fingers on your two hands and gently pull it in apart until it almost splits in half.
-
2
Spin the ball a quarter turn and gently pull it in the opposite direction once again, until it almost splits in two.
-
-
3
Work out any clumps with your fingertips, spreading and moving the threads of the ball apart. If any portion should break, gently rub the broken ends together until they are reunited.
-
4
Shape the cotton mass gently into a web shape with your fingertips.
-
5
Spray the web with hairspray to give it more substance and to help it hold together. Be aware that the cotton will get tacky at this point and may stick to your fingers. You may want to use a pencil or another slim instrument to help you shape the web.
-
6
Drape or hang your web. If you want to make the web more realistic, add a tiny plastic or paper spider to its surface.
