How to Make a Newspaper Costume

Extra, extra — read all about it! Homemade Halloween costumes are in this season — and every season from now on. This Halloween, design a costume for a female wearer that will keep trick-or-treaters abreast of the latest news, but won't take you more than a few spare minutes to create. Make a quick and easy costume out of ordinary newspapers that is sure to be headline news and the most talked about story at the water cooler on November 1st.

Things You'll Need

  • Scissors
  • Plain black T-shirt
  • Black leggings
  • Duct tape
  • Cut out the top half of the front page news story for that day out of the newspaper page.

  • Lay a plain black T-shirt flat on a table and attach the front page to the chest of the shirt, using duct tape. Start 2 inches down from the neckline.

  • Fold between 5 and 10 pieces of newspaper into thirds and cut along the fold lines.

  • Lay half of the cut newspaper pieces lengthwise about an inch away from the bottom of the T-shirt. The newspaper should be spread out like a tutu or pleated skirt.

  • Secure the newspaper onto the shirt with duct tape. Flip over the shirt and repeat the process on the back.

  • Open up a piece of the newspaper and lay it out on the table. Cut out an oval from the center, large enough to fit the wearer's head through. Trim the rest of the page so it forms a newspaper poncho.

  • Wear the black newspaper shirt with skirt over a pair of black leggings, and pull the poncho over the shirt.
