How to Make Window Suncatcher
Suncatchers can be made of beads, crystals, or charms. They hang in windows to reflect the sunlight and create rainbows or bright spots around the room. There are many types of suncatchers, from simple crystals hanging on beaded threads, to complex stained glass patterns suspended from heavy chain. You can make basic suncatchers simply, which will give you experience to someday make more expert versions.
Things You'll Need
- Large crystal (any shape you prefer)
- Small beads
- Silver nylon beading wire
- Wire cutters or scissors
Instructions

1
Lay beads out along a flat surface so you can see what they will look like when the project is completed. Put a crystal at the bottom and line the beads up in a straight line above it. Choose enough beads for 12 inches of wire.
-
2
Cut beading wire to measure at least 15 inches long - 12 inches for the beads and the remaining inches to tie on a crystal and create a loop at the top for hanging. If the wire will not cut simply with scissors, use wire cutters. Try not to fray the ends of the wire as then it will be difficult to string beads on it.

3
Knot the crystal firmly in place at the bottom of the wire. String beads onto the wire right above the crystal. Follow the pattern you set up earlier and continue this for 12 inches. You should have one or two inches of wire left open at the top when you are done. Fold this over and tie off so that you have a small loop of wire.

Tips & Warnings
Choose the pattern for your suncatcher. Pick which crystal and beads you want to use before you actually begin stringing anything together.
You can add charms to the suncatcher by stringing them onto the wire either before (to create a dangling look) or after the crystal.
If you add in more charms, crystals, or beads to the suncatcher, be sure to add in more inches of wire length to accommodate them. There must be excess wire at the top to make a loop for hanging the suncatcher in the window.
