How to Make a Shredded Scarf Out of Shirts

Save

Repurposing old clothes from your closet is a quick and inexpensive way to expand your wardrobe while also spending some time being creative. Rescue an extra-extra-large men's t-shirt from your husband's closet or your stack of sleep shirts from the trash to create a fashionable, though not very functional, shredded scarf that will add a rockstar vibe to any ensemble.

Things You'll Need

  • XXL men's t-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Lay the t-shirt out flat on your work surface. Cut straight across the shirt just under the armpits. Discard the top portion of the shirt.

  • Make cuts into the left edge of shirt that extend two-thirds the way across the shirt every inch down the left side.

  • Stretch the loops that result from the cuts. Stretching the loops will cause the cut edges to roll inward, creating a stringy shredded look.

  • Pull the scarf down over your head with the solid, unshredded portion of the scarf at the back of your neck. You can also wrap the scarf around your neck twice by twisting it and pulling it over your head again for a different, more complicated look.
