How to Restore a Chat on Facebook

View a previous conversation in Facebook's chat sidebar.

Facebook includes an instant messaging sidebar, allowing you to privately chat with anyone on your friends list. Sometimes important facts are lost during a conversation, such as an address or phone number. You have the ability to recall any conversation you've had through Facebook's chat sidebar. Open your chat history to view entire conversations spanning back months or even years.

Instructions

1. Click "Chat" at the bottom right to view the chat sidebar.

2. Click the "Search" field at the bottom of the chat sidebar.

3. Type the person's name for whom you want to restore a chat conversation.

4. Click the person's name in the results list above. A chat window opens displaying your chat history.

5. Scroll up through the chat window to view older conversations.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also click "Messages" on the left side of Facebook to view your recent chat conversations.
