How to Easily Get Rid of Glue on Jeans That's Been Dried & Isn't Sticky thumbnail
Gently scraping the bulk of the dried glue is the first step to removing it from jeans.

Using glue for craft and construction projects can be a simple way to bond items. Wood, plastic and even some metals can bond together with the right glue. Unfortunately, glue also sticks to fabric, such as jeans, just as well. Left untreated, it can result in a dried stain on your jeans that cannot be removed through general laundry care. A number of household items found in your bathroom vanity and kitchen pantry can be used to remove dried and non-sticky glue from jeans. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Single-blade straight razor
  • Small container
  • White vinegar

Instructions

    • 1

Place the jeans around the narrow end of an ironing board or on a flat surface. Use a single-blade straight razor -- held at a slight angle away from you -- to scrape the surface of the jeans. Hold the jeans securely with your other hand. Scrap as much of the dried glue as you can.

    • 2

Mix a solution of 50 percent white vinegar and 50 percent water in a small container. Dip the head of a toothbrush into the solution and apply to the surface of the glue and the surrounding fabric. Reapply several times, then blot dry with a paper towel. Pour a small amount of warm tap water on the glue stain. Add a dab of liquid laundry detergent and brush the area with a sponge or cloth. Rinse the area well with water.

    • 3

Apply heat from a blow dryer (set on high) directly on the glue stain. Use a razor to scrape away the glue once it becomes tacky, then rinse well. Apply a small amount of liquid laundry detergent to remove the glue stain. Rinse the area well with water. Repeat if necessary.

    • 4

Apply a small dab of petroleum jelly to the dried glue. Set the jeans aside for a couple days. Check periodically and reapply petroleum jelly, if necessary. Pretreat the glue stain with laundry detergent. Rinse the area well with water and wash as normal.

Tips & Warnings

  • As a last resort, use nail polish remover that has acetone in it. Mix the polish remover with an equal amount of water, and apply a small amount in a hidden area of your jeans to see if it causes a discoloration. If not, apply the solution directly onto the glue stain and rub in with a sponge. Reapply several times until the glue can be scraped off.
