How to Make Baby Skinny Headbands
When searching for the perfect hair accessory for a baby girl's head, look to your undergarment drawer. You can purchase headbands from various retailers, but these headbands are typically thick and overpriced. Instead of spending unnecessary money, repurpose a pair of nylons that you no longer use. Nylons are the ideal fabric to make skinny headbands because the material is lightweight and stretches easily. Additionally, nylon will support small accent pieces; however, make sure they are properly attached to prevent the baby from pulling them off of the headband.
Things You'll Need
- Large to extra-large pair of nylons
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Small bow or silk flower
- Fabric glue or hot glue gun and glue sticks

1
Select a pair of nylons; any color will work, but keep in mind that it is the foundation of the headband. The nylons should be large to extra large in size so the band stretches enough to fit around the baby's head.
-
2
Lay the nylons on a flat surface and measure up 2 inches from the heel of the foot. Cut across the leg of the nylons at this point. Discard the foot and heel of the nylons.

3
Measure 2 inches up from the new edge of the nylons and cut. At this point you will have a 2-inch ring of fabric. This is the headband. To make more than one headband, continue cutting in 2-inch increments up the legs of the nylons until you reach the panty line. Discard the nylons once you reach the panty line.

4
Slip your index fingers into the interior of the nylons. Pull the nylons outward so the material stretches out into a thin band. The nylon ring will roll into a thin band. Adjust the band with your fingers so the rolled edges turn inward.

5
Apply a dab of fabric glue to the underside of the band on two sides directly opposite each other. This will secure the rolled edges so they remain under the headband.

6
Attach a small bow or small silk flower to the headband using fabric glue. Wait for the glue to dry completely before wrapping it around the baby's head.

Tips & Warnings
Place a small dab of clear nail polish over a snag in the nylon if it begins to pull apart.
Bows or flowers that are loose could pose a choking hazard for babies.
