Save the roll when the toilet paper is gone.

Crafting a "candle" with your kids is a creative way to turn trash into treasure. Instead of throwing a toilet paper roll away when the paper is gone, save it to use in a craft project. With a little help from a few basic art supplies, your child can transform the boring cardboard roll into a charming candle. Give the candle the festive treatment by decorating it with colors associated with specific holidays.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the outside of an empty toilet paper roll with acrylic craft paint. Choose a paint color to coordinate with a special occasion or holiday, such as red for Christmas or yellow for Easter. Allow the paint to thoroughly dry.

    • 2

Cut a flame shape out of red or orange construction paper, or sparkling gold wrapping paper. Tape the bottom of the flame shape to the inside portion of the top of the roll, allowing it to stick out.

    • 3

Decorate the painted toilet-paper-roll candle with glitter glue for a touch of shimmer. Draw wavy patterns, stripes or any type of design, such as stars or hearts, on the roll. Allow the glitter glue to dry before continuing.

    • 4

Apply craft glue all around the bottom of the toilet paper roll. Press the roll onto a small, colorful paper plate that will serve as the candle holder.
