How to Crochet Frills
Crochet frills or ruffles on the edges of scarves, at the necklines of cardigan sweaters or on the cuffs of gloves. They add a touch of feminine flirtiness to a little girl's dress or a motherly stuffed bear's ensemble. You can make frills or ruffles to suit the scale of the garment and its wearer. Practice making a basic frill then unleash your inventiveness by mixing single, half double, double and treble crochet stitches with chain stitches. Working several stitches into a single stitch from the previous row creates the fullness associated with frills. A few chains between them keeps any bulkiness under control.

Tips & Warnings
Chain two stitches, then work a single crochet, work a double crochet, another single crochet and another chain-two in the same stitch. Repeat across. Chain two stitches and turn. On the next row, chain two stitches, work double crochets in the stitches and spaces of the ruffly stitches from the first row. Repeat across the row.
Use a smooth yarn or thread when crocheting frills and ruffles. Fuzzy angora and mohair yarns are difficult to unravel if you make a mistake and have to remove several stitches.
