The purpose of a centerpiece is to emphasize the theme of your gathering and provide a focal point for party goers as they mingle. They can range from fragile and expensive to fun and disposable. If you're planning a children's party, baby shower or other less-than-formal gathering, you can create a bouquet of Dum Dum Pops to brighten up your party space. These handmade centerpieces will charm your guests and give them a little something to take with them as they go.
Things You'll Need
- Tall drinking glass
- Hard candies
- Styrofoam sphere
- Dum Dum Pops lollipops
Gather tall drinking glasses or rent them from a party supplier. For a dramatic centerpiece, use extra tall vases.
Take a glass with you to a craft store and find styrofoam spheres that fit snugly in the mouth of the glass. They should neither slip down into the glass nor sit on top of it.
Fill the glass with small hard candies of your choice. The candies will contribute to the playful feel of the centerpiece.
Stick a Styrofoam sphere into the mouth of the candy-filled glass. Only the upper half of the sphere should be exposed.
Push the sticks of Dum Dums into the Styrofoam sphere, starting at the area that's closest to the rim of the glass. The lollipop should be an inch deep into the sphere. Continue pressing the Dum Dums into the sphere until it's covered. You should layer them closely so the sphere becomes invisible.
