1
Check the invitation you have for the Thanksgiving dinner if you received one from your friend's family or your friend herself. Some invitations have information on the proper attire to wear for the event. Ask your friend yourself what type of clothing is preferred when attending the Thanksgiving dinner — whether it is semi-formal or a casual gathering.

2
Wear a semi-formal blouse or a dress if you are a girl attending the dinner. For boys, wearing a button-up shirt, sweater or traditional polo shirt is appropriate for a Thanksgiving dinner. Wear fall colors, including browns, oranges, golds and deep reds, to celebrate the fall season.

3
Choose a pair of dark fitted jeans if you prefer not wearing slacks, khakis or a skirt and leggings (if you are also wearing a blouse). Plain colored bottoms with a decorative (or neutral) top is suitable for dinner attire.
-
4
Accessorize with a headband that matches your top or dress or gold or silver jewelry (such as a watch, necklace, bracelet or ring). Wear black or dark socks to blend with your outfit rather than traditional white socks, as you are dressing semi-formally.
-
5
Wear dress shoes that have closed toes and also match with your pants or bottoms. Avoid wearing extremely high heels and stick to heels that are only 1 to 2 inches off of the ground, as the dinner is semi-formal and will generally be held in a home. For boys, choose dress shoes that are classic and have a solid color to match your pants.
