Add a country feel to your home with a 6-foot crocheted round rug.

Crocheted rugs add a rustic look to any décor and you can make one over the course of a weekend. Choose colors that match your room or use bold, contrasting colors. If you are going to put the crocheted rug on a hard surface such as tile or wood, add a non-slip rug pad to the back of the rug to help prevent accidental falls.

Instructions

    • 1

Wind each color of rug yarn into three balls. You will be working with three strands of yarn at the same time.

    • 2

Attach three strands of yarn to the crochet hook with a slip knot. Chain five. Join the chain to create a circle with a slip stitch.

    • 3

Use your hook to make a single crochet stitch in the center of the circle. Make four single crochet stitches. Do not join them. Use a stitch marker or contrasting thread to mark the beginning of the first row.

    • 4

Make two single crochet stitches in each of the previous four single crochet stitches. At the end of the row, do not turn. Repeat this Step twice.

    • 5

Make two single crochet stitches in the next single crochet stitch, make one single crochet stitch in the next single crochet stitch, make two single crochet stitches in the next single crochet stitch and repeat the pattern of two single crochets, one single crochet for the next two rows.

    • 6

Make one single crochet stitch in each single crochet stitch for the next two rows. When you get to the end of the second row, repeat Steps 1 through 6 until the rug measures 6 feet in diameter. For the final row, join with a slip stitch. Fasten off the yarn by cutting the yarn about 6 inches from the hook and pulling a slip stitch through all loops on the hook.

    • 7

Finish off the rug by weaving all loose threads through the stitching with a darning needle. Add a non-slip backing to the wrong side of the rug if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • 100 percent wool makes a very durable and low-maintenance rug. Cotton also works well.
