Complete a Cisco IP Communicator installation by configuring custom background images on the Cisco CallManager server. Background images that display a company or department logo can be configured on each Cisco IP Communicator phone to unify company information systems. Use the Windows command line and Notepad text editor to configure Cisco IP Communicator custom background images.

  • Background image PNG file, 80 by 53 pixels
  • Windows Server 2008 computer with Cisco CallManager installed
  • Cisco IP Communicator phone

Instructions

    • 1

      Click the Windows orb on the desktop task bar of the Cisco CallManager computer and type “cmd” in the Search box. Right-click the command-line icon that appears and click “Run as Administrator.”

      Type the following on the command line:

      copy C:\path-to-image-file\320x212.png C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\Desktops\320x212x12\

      Replace “C:\path-to-image-file\320x212.png” with the directory path and file name of the 320-by-212-pixel background image. Press the "Enter" key

      Type the following on the command line, replacing “C:\path-to-image-file\80x53.png” with the directory path and file name of the 80-by-53-pixel background image, and then press “Enter”:

      copy C:\path-to-image-file\80x53.png C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\Desktops\320x212x12\

      Type “notepad C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\Desktops\320x212x12\list.xml” on the command line and tap the “Enter” key.

      Move the cursor to an empty line immediately above the “</CiscoIPPhoneImageList>” line.

      Type the following into the “List.xml” document:

      <ImageItem Image="TFTP:Desktops/320x212x12/80x53.png"
      URL="TFTP:Desktops/320x212x12/320x212.png"/>

      Replace “80x53.png” with the file name of the 80-by-53-pixel background image, and replace “320x212.png” with the file name of the 320-by-212-pixel background image.

      Click the “File” menu and “Save.” Click the “File” menu and “Exit.”

      Go to “Settings” on a Cisco IP Communicator phone. Go to “User,” “Preferences” and then “Background Images.”

      Highlight and select the newly configured background image.
