Instructions

    • 1

Find a gently used prom dress, bridal gown or bridesmaid dress to serve as the base of the Cinderella dress. Thrift shops, online auctions or even your own closet are inexpensive places to find dresses that can be transformed to a princess gown.

    • 2

Add volume to the skirt of the dress by creating a quick petticoat-like layer. Cut a portion of elastic that will fit around your waist and sew it together, forming a belt-like loop. Measure the distance from your waist to your mid-calves, then cut several panels of crinoline that are this length. Sew several layers of the crinoline panels to the elastic waist to create a pouffy, petticoat-like skirt that will add more volume to your dress.

    • 3

Measure the circumference of areas on the bodice and skirt where you'd like to add lace and ruffles. For example, measure the waist, as well as the bottom of the skirt. Use a thread and needle to carefully sew lace to the waist and add some layers of ruffles near the bottom of the skirt.

    • 4

Sew cloth flowers or elegant rosettes to the dress with a thread and needle. These can look beautiful as a layer around the skirt, lining where the bodice meets the skirt or at other locations on the dress.

    • 5

Adorn the dress with lots of sparkle. Adhere rhinestones, faux jewels and other glitzy decorations with hot glue. Lines of glitter glue add extra shine.
