How to Close the Year in QuickBooks
QuickBooks is a software application used for end of year accounting. Once you have finished out a year in the program, you'll need to close it before you can begin a new year. Closing your QuickBooks year will not change the status of individual entries within the year, but will prompt you from being requested to review the year's statistics when the program is launched.

Open the Start menu and type "quickbooks," then select "QuickBooks" from the list of programs.

Select the year you'd like to close from the list of open years displayed on the main window.

Click "Company," then "Set closing date."

Select a previous date or a future date when you'd like the year to close. If you enter a past date, the book will close immediately.
