You can edit ActionScript in Flash.

ActionScript is Adobe Flash's programming language. Flash Professional, a leading animation program, supports editing ActionScript in two ways: You can edit ActionScript embedded in Flash movies in the Actions panel, or you can edit external ActionScript, or AS, files in the Flash Professional document window. Flash is an ActionScript source code editor. You'll need a basic understanding of ActionScript programming to edit ActionScript code successfully.

Instructions

  1. Edit Embedded ActionScript Code

      Open an existing Flash FLA movie file containing ActionScript you want to edit by clicking the "File: menu and choosing "Open." This displays the Open dialog box. Navigate to the file, select it, and then click the "Open" button.

      Click the "Window" menu and choose "Actions." This opens the Actions panel.

      Select the frame containing the ActionScript you want to edit in the Script Navigator, located in the lower-left corner of the Actions panel.

      Edit the ActionScript code as desired.

    Edit an External ActionScript File

      Open an existing external ActionScript AS file by clicking the "File: menu and choosing "Open." This displays the Open dialog box. Navigate to the file, select it, and then click the "Open" button. Flash opens the AS file and displays it in the document window.

      Scroll to the line of code you want edit.

      Make the desired edits.

      Repeat steps 2 and 3 as until you finish making your edits

      Click the "File" menu and choose "Save As." This opens the Save As dialog box. Click Save.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can get help composing code at any time by clicking the "Show Code Hint" button, the fifth button from the left, at the top of the Actions panel or the in the upper-left corner of the document window.
