By default, worksheets are labeled "Sheet 1," "Sheet 2," and so on. Especially if you're using many worksheets, it really helps to label them something more specific ("Marketing Budget," "Engineering Budget," and so on, for example). These steps work for Excel 97.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Open Microsoft Excel and the file you want to change.

  2. Step 2

Double-click on the tab for the worksheet that you want to rename. (The tabs are at the bottom of the Excel window.) The sheet's name becomes highlighted.

  3. Step 3

Type in the new worksheet name.

  4. Step 4

Press Enter to accept the changes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Open the Edit menu and select Undo to delete the change, or just type in a new name.
  • Worksheet names are especially important when you send your workbook file to others who might not understand your thought processes.
