How to Replace Mountain Bike Hand Grips
This is an easy fix if you know the secret but very annoying if you don't. If your bike has seen some hard use, or if you plan on changing the handlebars, you'll need to know how to do this.

1
Remove the old grips. Cut them off with a knife if necessary.
-
2
If you have replaced the entire handlebar, be sure the shift levers and brake levers are properly in place on the handlebars before installing the new grips.
-
-
3
Spray a generous amount of hairspray inside one of the new grips. Slide it into place on the bar.
-
4
Repeat step 3 for the other grip.
-
5
Allow the hairspray to dry for several minutes and the new grips will stay in place.

if the grips do not come off, get a syringe from the pharmacy, fill it with thinner or white spirit or paint brush cleaner. Gently push the needle through the rubber and squirt a little liquid between the handle bars and grip. Repeat in various places. Let it all sit for a while and the grips will come off easily. This also works very well for golf clubs ahahaha! -

I've heard that removing the grips can be done by using an air compressor to blow air under the grips while twisting them off. Can anyone confirm this? -

Put the new grips in the freezer for at least an hour allowing the material to firm. Then slide them onto your handlebars and use a rubber mallet to persuade them on the rest of the way. -
