How to Rescue a Burned Cake or Pie

Don't despair--there are endless ways to dress up a not-quite-perfect dessert. A little ice cream, a little creativity and voila`, your guests will never know what a disaster you averted.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fruit And Ice Cream
  • Liqueur And Cookies
  • Fine-holed Grater
  • Large Bowl Or Wine Glasses
  • Serrated Knife
  • Frosting, cocoa powder, confectioners' sugar, fruit or toasted nuts
  1. Step 1

    Use a fine-holed grater to scrape away minor burns. Trim larger burned areas with a small serrated knife.

  2. Step 2

  3. Step 3

    If the top or bottom of the cake or pie is burned completely, then carefully cut away the entire layer with a serrated knife.

  4. Step 4

    Cut the remaining cake or pie crust into decorative shapes, then layer the cake or crust pieces with fruit and ice cream in a large, clear bowl or individual wine glasses.

  5. Step 5

    If the pie crust is irretrievably burned, use the hot pie filling as a topping over ice cream or heat it with a little liqueur and serve it as a compote with cookies.
