Ask plenty of questions when looking for jobs from home

Working from home is incredibly appealing and there are numerous companies advertising positions from home that sound too good to be true because they pay exceptionally well. Unfortunately, in many cases, they are little more than scams. If you're trying to find a legitimate job as a researcher from home there are several steps you can take.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of what areas of research you are interested in. Do you want to carry out research for private companies to help them target their marketing campaigns, or are you more interested in election polls?

    • 2

Do an Internet search for any company advertising researcher positions to verify their credentials. Check the Federal Trade Commission website to see if there have been any complaints against the company.

    • 3

Read the disclaimer or small print. Advertisements that promise you $1,000 a week might have a disclaimer that says this is an exceptional circumstance.

    • 4

Ensure you have the required experience and/or qualifications for the role before you apply. Some roles may require a background in research; however researching can also consist of carrying out phone interviews for which you won't normally need formal experience.

    • 5

Prepare a list of questions to ask the company before you agree to start working for them. Find out exactly how many hours' work they expect from you and the pay. If the job entails conducting research over the telephone, find out if they will pay your phone bill. Companies that ask you to pay a starter fee are best avoided -- these are usually scams.
