How to Color Dark Gray Hair to Light Silver
As men and women age, the hair often turns gray, silver or white over time. According to Ladies Home Journal, gray hair is resistant to color. To color gray hair you have to use permanent hair color which offers the best way to change the color of gray hair. If you have dark gray hair you can lighten it to light silver. Purchase a hair color kit made specifically for coloring gray hair. Many brands of hair color offer a line for those with gray hair. Choose the light silver color you prefer.

Put on gloves before coloring. Most kits come with a pair of plastic or latex gloves.

Take off the tip of the developer bottle. Remove the cap of the bottle.

Pour the silver hair color into the developer bottle. Put the cap on the developer bottle. Place a finger on the tip and shake the bottle well. This mixes the developer and the hair color.

Apply the color to the hair immediately after mixing. Squeeze bottle and start coloring at the hairline. Part the hair with the tip of the bottle into 1/4 inch sections. Continue coloring the hair by moving backwards to the nape of the neck.

Leave hair color on for 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the directions that come with the kit.

Wet hair with warm water in the shower. Lather the hair as if using shampoo. After a few minutes, rinse out the hair. When the water is clear, the excess hair color is gone.

Apply the conditioner that comes in the kit. Massage it into the hair and wait for up to five minutes. Then rinse out conditioner completely.

Dry hair as you usually do.

Tips & Warnings
Use blue or purple shampoo when washing the silver hair. These shampoos are made for grey hair and prevent the yellow tinge common with silver, grey or white hair.
