How to Recover Deleted Bookmarks in Chrome

Google Chrome's bookmark manager doesn't include an undelete option. If you accidentally delete a bookmark or bookmark folder in Chrome, you can recover it by restoring the bookmarks backup file that Chrome creates. However, Chrome overwrites the backup file each time you launch Google Chrome, so you can recover deleted bookmarks only if you haven't already restarted Google Chrome. The backup file is located in your Google Chrome installation's User Data directory.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," type "C:\Users\Name\AppData" into the search box in the Start menu, replacing "Name" with your Windows user name, and press "Enter."

    • 2

Navigate to the "Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\" folder in the AppData folder by double-clicking each folder.

    • 3

Close Google Chrome. Don't launch Google Chrome again until you finish this process because it will overwrite your backup file.

    • 4

Right-click the "Bookmarks" file in the Default folder and select "Delete."

    • 5

Right-click the "Bookmarks.bak" file, select "Rename," remove the ".bak" from the end of the file name so that it becomes "Bookmarks." Press "Enter." Click "Yes" to confirm the file extension change.

    • 6

      Launch Google Chrome.
