  1. Step 1

Get comfortable riding the halfpipe before you attempt an aerial. Make sure you can turn frontside and backside as well as generate speed in the halfpipe.

  2. Step 2

Visualize your run before you drop into the pipe. Plan a turn or two to build up speed before you jump.

  3. Step 3

Hop a little extra on your first frontside turn to get a feel for turning a 180 with your weight off the board.

  4. Step 4

Ride on your uphill edge and face uphill, approaching the transition with a lot of speed.

  5. Step 5

Jump up as you reach the lip and pull your knees up toward your chest.

  6. Step 6

Grab the board on the toe edge with your front hand.

  7. Step 7

Look over your shoulder to keep your eyes where you want to land. Turn the board 180 degrees in the air.

  8. Step 8

Release your hand from the board as you begin to descend.

  9. Step 9

Absorb the landing with your knees and keep riding.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you get more comfortable with your aerials, try to do them higher and higher. Also start trying some different grabs.
  • Grab the toe edge near the nose with your back hand for a crail air.
  • Hold the heel edge of the board with your front hand and lean over the nose while straightening your back leg for a lien air.
  • Grab the toe edge near the nose with your front hand to do a slob air.
  • Keep your legs straight and grab your toe-side rail with either hand to do a stiffy air.
  • Reach your back arm around your back leg to grab the heel-side rail between your feet for a stale fish air.
  • Don't attempt frontside aerials until you're already thoroughly comfortable riding the halfpipe. Learn the fundamentals of snowboarding and halfpipes first.
  • Snowboarding is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.

on 11/22/2005 The first time in the halfpipe, you should go to the top of the wall and turn your board downward. The next time, you should drop in. You do this by going to the edge of the halfpipe and placing your board half on and half off. Lean forward, and you will get the speed to get some air off the lips of the pipe.

on 11/22/2005 If it's your first time riding the halfpipe make sure you don't start by going all the way up the walls. Start by going a quarter of the way up. When you get comfortable with that then start going a third of the way, then half way, then you can do it.
