How to Ollie on a Snowboard

Doing an ollie - using the tail of your board as a spring - gets you in the air without using a jump.

  • Helmets
  • Snowboard Bag
  • Snowboard Bindings
  • Snowboard Boots
  • Snowboard Clothing
  • Snowboard Goggles
  • Snowboard Hats
  • Snowboard Leash
  • Snowboards
  • Waxes
  • Helmets
  1. Step 1

    Snowboard forward in a straight line with moderate speed. Whatever feels most comfortable is the best for learning. Ollies can be done anywhere.

  2. Step 2

    Crouch your body down over your board, ready to jump.

  3. Step 3

    Perform the following three steps in one smooth, quick sequence.

  4. Step 4

    Pull your front foot up hard and load your weight onto your board's tail to use it as a spring.

  5. Step 5

    Pop off your back foot, lifting your back leg.

  6. Step 6

    Draw your knees up as high to your chest as you can.

  7. Step 7

    Level off the board once you're in the air.

  8. Step 8

    Straighten your legs as you near the landing.

  9. Step 9

    Land both feet together and bend your knees to absorb the impact.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ollie as much as you can to build jumping strength and improve your technique.
  • Ollie over things to help push your height limits. Choose forgiving things at first, so you won't get hung up.
  • Once you master the ollie, there's an unlimited amount of variations you can put on the move.
