Paddington - eccentric and still resolutely English - is one of the world's classic bears. Since he first appeared at Paddington Station more than 40 years ago, he has appealed to all ages and nationalities. Here's how to bring him into your life.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nuevas Adventuras De Paddington
  • Paddington Bear Stickers
  • Paddington Bear's Scrabble Game
  • Anniversary Paddington Bears
  1. Step 1

Learn about Paddington and his various adventures. Since Michael Bond introduced him to the Browns - the London family who took him home and with whom he still lives - more than 70 different Paddington books have been published in 18 languages.

  2. Step 2

Decide if you want to buy an antique/collectible Paddington or a new one.

  3. Step 3

Find out where Paddington merchandise is available in your country or region if you want to buy a new one: in the United States, it's Sears; in Japan, Sony Plaza; in Europe, Hennes & Mauritz (in France, La Redoute mail order; in Madrid, VIPS). Many Web sites also offer Paddington Bears, clothing, books and accessories.

  4. Step 4

Investigate collectible exchanges and antique sites and shops if it's a collectible you're after.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you can, go to where it all began. The Padding Bear at Paddington Station retail stand, located on the concourse of London's Paddington Station, was opened by Michael Bond, the popular bear's creator, in 1994. It has since become a popular gift outlet and tourist attraction.
  • In 1997, Paddington participated in New York City's Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  • Paddington's 40th birthday was celebrated in 1998 with the introduction of a new book, "Paddington and the Christmas Surprise."
  • New Paddington bears cost between $10 and $40 though you can get a one-of-a-kind for $500.

on 11/22/2005 I would suggest looking in small toy stores and gift stores. Look for Paddington merchandise where there is Madeline merchandise, too. Some of these products are made by the same company and can often be found together.
