How to Make a Pharaoh Collar

How to Make a Pharaoh Collar thumbnail
A collar was made of different materials and designs.

Collars were part of the attire of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh. They were worn around the neck often over a bare chest. The collars were adorned with gemstones and precious metals and consisted of tubes attached around a central choker. You can make an imitation Egyptian Pharaoh's collar for a costume by using items from around the house. The size of collar you make depends on the size of the person who will wear it.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a half circle shape from a piece of blue fabric. The diameter of the half-circle should be about the distance between the wearer's nipples. Cut a smaller half circle in the middle of the half circle to create a curve shape.

    • 2

Cut a number of identically sized shapes such as triangles and circles from different colored fabrics. These shapes will be used to create your pattern design on the collar. Use colors such as gold and precious stone colors to imitate the jewels and metals used on a Pharaoh's collar.

    • 3

Arrange the shapes in a pattern around the edge of the curved fabric piece. Attach them to the collar with glue when you are happy with the design.

    • 4

Cut two small holes in each end of the curve. Feed a length of string or rope through the holes. Make a loop in each end of the rope and feed the loose end through to create an overhand knot. The knot will prevent the string from coming loose from the collar. Hand the collar around the wearer's neck.
