How to Get Through Mage Asunder

In "Dragon Age: Origins," you are a warden working to unite Ferelden against the blight. Your travels bring you to the Circle Tower looking for support, but when you arrive you find it in chaos. As you move through the structure, you're eventually pulled into the Fade by a sloth demon. You must work through several areas to escape, and the Mage Asunder location contains one of five demons you must defeat before confronting the sloth demon himself. As long as you have the burning man form, you get through Mage Asunder without too much difficulty.

Instructions

    • 1

Change into the mouse form and enter the mouse hole on the far side of the room between the table and bookcase. This is in the first room you appear in when you enter Mage Asunder. The next room will have two mages in it. They won't see you at first, but you'll have to leave mouse form and fight them both.

    • 2

Exit the room by the only door and turn left to proceed down the hallway. The door to the final room on your left is open, and you'll hear four crazy mages inside speaking; in a moment they'll begin attacking each other. You can either join in the fight right away or wait and finish off the last mage standing.

    • 3

Leave the hallway through the door at its end. You'll enter a large room with three enemy servants in it. You'll only see one initially; the others are in stealth mode, so be ready for their sneak attacks.

    • 4

Open the door on the far side of the room. After the door opens, you'll see your path is blocked by fire, so change into the burning man form to pass. On your left are four fireplaces, and when you approach them two rage demons will attack you, followed by two more. Defeat them, but remember that fire attacks don't damage rage demons.

    • 5

Open the next door using the burning man form. Inside the following room are several mages you must defeat.

    • 6

Enter the door at the end of this large area to reach the final room on this level. Defeat the mages within. Note that at the end of this room is a massive door, which you cannot yet open. Later, with the golem form, you'll be able to smash through it and reach the room you started in with the fade pedestal. Proceed up the stairs after you've dealt with the mages.

    • 7

Join in the fight that begins as soon as you enter this next room against three chantry priests and two stone golems. A cursed dreamer in the middle of the room is fighting against them. As soon as the battle ends, he'll speak to you and teach you the golem form.

    • 8

Go up the stairs at the end of the room to reach the final level of Mage Asunder. In the first room you'll fight a couple of mages and a stone golem. This is a great time to try out the golem form to see how its special abilities work.

    • 9

Right-click the massive door at the end of the room while in the golem form. The golem will hurl a boulder at the door to open it. Make sure you stand away from the door, since the boulder does area-of-effect damage. Beyond the door are two priests you must defeat.

    • 10

Continue south through the area. There are several rooms to the sides that you can enter if you want, but your destination is the room at the southernmost end of the halls.

    • 11

Break through the massive door at the end of the corridors and fight the two arcane horrors within. The door in this room leads to the final location of Mage Asunder.

    • 12

Open the last door and fight the demon Slavren inside. After defeating him, you can exit Mage Asunder using the fade pedestal in the room.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although you can simply run through the entire Mage Asunder area as quickly as possible, it's worth exploring a bit. In addition to codex entries hidden throughout the areas, you can also find several essences and fonts that permanently increase your character's statistics.

  • If you don't have the burning man form yet, get it by working through the first portion of the Burning Tower section of the Fade.
