How to Mount a Plaque Into Bricks
Metal plaques are often mounted outside buildings for a number of reasons. You can use them to advertise an office or company or install them by a front door to show the house number or name. Installing something into brickwork can seem like a complicated task as it involves tampering with the main part of a building, but by using the correct tools, you can complete the job in very little time. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Spirit level
- Hammer drill
- Drill bit
- Masonry glue
- Rubber mallet
- Cloth
- Pencil
Instructions

1
Put the plaque on the wall where required and mark where the screw hole or studs will be on the wall with the pencil. Use a spirit level to ensure the plaque is correctly aligned.
-
2
Drill holes where marked with a hammer drill. A regular drill will do the job, but when drilling into brickwork using a hammer drill is best. The hole needs to be the same diameter and depth of the studs attaching it.

-
3
Blow into the holes to remove the masonry dust, as it will stop the glue from taking hold.
-
4
Put the screw studs through the prefabricated holes in the plaque. These may be threaded, in which case you will need to screw them in, or they may be plain barrel studs. Some plaques come with the studs already attached to the back.
-
5
Apply some masonry glue onto each of the studs and into the hole.
-
6
Place the plaque onto the wall so the studs go into the holes made earlier.
-
7
Knock the plaque into place using a rubber mallet. Place a wad of cloth over the top of each of the studs when hitting it so as not to damage the plaque.

Tips & Warnings
If it is difficult to mark where the studs go into the wall, make a paper template of the plaque and mark where you need to drill the holes, and then use the template rather than the plaque itself.
