How to Curl a Mohawk Hairstyle on African-American Females
If you are looking for a modern, punk-rock hairstyle, a curly Mohawk may be perfect for you. This hairstyle works great on African-American women because their hair is already naturally curly and its texture allows for easier styling. The best part is that you don't need to cut your hair to create a Mohawk. With a few hair ties and bobby pins, you can style a curly Mohawk even if your hair is long. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Detangle your hair using a pick and your fingers.
-
2
Divide the hair on your scalp into three sections, starting with the crown, then the middle and finally the back.
-
-
3
Hold each of the sections apart using a clip.
-
4
Remove the clip from the crown section of your hair and tie it off with a hair tie. It should look like a very high ponytail.
-
5
Remove the clip from the middle section of your hair and tie it off with a hair tie. It should look like a normally placed ponytail.
-
6
Remove the clip from the back section of your hair and tie it off with a hair tie. It should look like a low ponytail.
-
7
Curl your hair in 1/4-inch sections using a curling iron. To do this start with the crown section of your hair and pick out one strand at a time. Repeat this with the middle and back sections until all your hair is curled.
-
8
Use some gel to hold the curls and get the Mohawk to stand up the way you would like it to. Be sure to pull some of the curls from the crown section forward so that it truly looks like a Mohawk and not a series of ponytails.
-
9
Use bobby pins to add shape to the Mohawk. Draw the sections of hair together and pin them so that they form a continuous Mohawk. If your hair is very long, you might consider pinning the bottom of layers of hair up so they don't extend too far past your neck.
