How to Cancel a Shipping Label

Cancel a shipping label before you mail it.

One of the many benefits the Internet provides is the ability to ship a package from your home or office without having to make a trip to the post office; you can print shipping labels online. Once you create a shipping label you have up until the package is picked up or delivered to the shipping company to cancel the label. Cancelling the label means you cannot use it to mail that particular package. If you still want to mail the package you must create a new label.

Instructions

Federal Express

1. Login to your FedEx account by entering your username and password and clicking "Login."

2. Click on the "Ship History" link on your account homepage. View the list of shipments you have created shipping labels for and click on the one you want to cancel.

3. Click the "Cancel" button next to the shipping label you want to cancel. Confirm that you want to cancel the shipping label by clicking "Yes." Your shipment is now cancelled.

United Parcel Service

1. Cancel your UPS shipping label by cancelling your shipment. This is only necessary if the shipping label is for a shipment you are having picked up. If you are dropping the shipment off at UPS you do not have to cancel the shipping label; you simply do not mail the package.

2. Login to your UPS account and click on the "Shipping" link at the top of the page and then on the "Schedule a Pickup" link.

3. Click on "Pickup Status" at the top of the page and enter the pickup request number provided to you when you made the request and click "Cancel Pickup" to confirm the cancellation.

U.S. Postal Service

1. Login to your USPS account and click go to the "Click-N-Ship" page by clicking on the link. Click on the "My Account" link where you will find a link titled, "Online Postage Refund." Click on it.

2. Provide the transaction number and label number from the shipping label you are cancelling; cancelling your shipping label through the refund process allows you to handle both in one step. Both numbers are located on the confirmation page you received when you created the shipping label.

3. Confirm the information that appears once you input these numbers and confirm your refund request. Obtaining a refund cancels the shipping label and credits your credit card for the total amount of the shipping label purchase. You must do this within 10 days of creating the shipping label.
