How to Take a Screenshot on the HTC Desire

One method you can use to capture screenshots on the The HTC Desire smartphone is installing two separate free Android SDK software kits on your computer. After you have the software installed, you can run the screenshot tool on your smartphone to capture a screenshot and make it appear on your phone. If you want to edit your screenshot images, use the tool's editing features to make any changes.

Instructions

1. Open the Web browser on your computer and type the URL address, "http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html" in the search field. Press the "Search" button. Download the software kit "Android SDK" on your hard drive.

2. Type the URL address, "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html" in the search field on your Web browser. Press the "Search" button. Download the "Java SE SDK" kit on your computer.

3. Double-click on the "Android SDK" setup icon and install all of the packages. Click on the name of the "SDK" folder. Look for the subfolder "Tools" and open it.

4. Connect one end of the USB cable that came with your HTC Desire smartphone into an available USB port on your computer. Double-click on the file name "DDMS.BAT" to run the screenshot tool. When the DOS command window opens, move your mouse cursor over the name of your HTC Desire smartphone and left-click on it.

5. Tap the "Menu" button on your HTC Desire smartphone. Select "Settings" and then "Applications." Go to "Development" and tick the check box located next to "USB Debugging."

6. Go to the "Device" menu. Select "Screen Capture" to take a screenshot. After a moment the screenshot will appear on your phone's display screen.

7. Use any of the available options at the top of the screen to edit the screenshot image.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also use a third-party application like PicMe, ShootMe or No Root Screenshot, if your HTC Desire phone is rooted. Go to Android Market and log on to your Gmail user account. Type the keyword "Screenshot" in the search field. Scroll drown the page until you find an application that you want to download and click the "Install" button. Follow the installation instructions. Launch the screenshot application. Shake your HTC Desire smartphone for one second. When you hear a shutter noise or a clicking sound, you've captured the screenshot.
