How to Make a Swirl in GIMP

The GIMP image editor supports a "whirl and pinch" effect that can create a distorted swirl in an image identical to that produced by the popular effect in Apple's Photobooth. GIMP can be downloaded free from the Gimp.org website, if you don't already have it installed on your computer. Use the settings in the Whirl and Pinch dialog box to change the radius and intensity of the swirl.

Instructions

    • 1

Use one of GIMP's selection tools to select the area of the image you want to swirl.

Open the "Filters" menu, point to "Distorts" and click "Whirl and Pinch."

    • 3

Use the sliders in the Whirl and Pinch dialog box to adjust the swirl. Changes will appear in the Preview window at the top of the dialog box.

    • 4

Press "OK" to apply the swirl.
