How to Do Facebook Smiley Emoticons

Emoticons are a standard feature in forums, email services and chat software. Facebook is no exception, and allow you to use smileys and other emoticons to liven up chat sessions with your friends. Though Facebook does not keep a complete list of the smileys that are currently available, try various keyboard shortcuts and you might just be one of the first to discover the latest emoticons when they are added.

      Click the Facebook Chat window on the lower right of any Facebook page and click the name of one of your friends who are online. Alternatively, go to "Messages" on the left pane, click "New Message" and enter the name of a friend to send a message to.

  • Some of the more unusual-looking emoticons you can try are "v" for Pacman, ":42:" for the number 42, "(^^^)" for a shark's mouth, "<(")" for a penguin and ":|]" for a robot.
