How to Donate Gently Used Books

Many charities and non-profit organizations will accept donations in the form of gently used books. This includes children's stories, short stories, novels, poetry, dictionaries, encyclopedias, science, language, how-to books and many more. Books can be used for a number of good causes, such as teaching children to read in the U.S. as well as in other countries. You can also donate books to your local schools and projects as a way of giving back to your community.

Instructions

1. Contact schools in your area if you have any gently used children's books that you want to donate. These could be story books for young children or specialized school books for learning.

2. Take your used books to a charity shop or thrift store in your area where the money that is made from the books will go to a charity. Contact the store beforehand if you have a large number of books that you will struggle to get to the shop yourself. In this case, the charity store should arrange to collect the books from your house.

3. Look for non-profit organizations working within the community that are in need of book donations. Enquire in churches, community centers and hospitals. If you are unsuccessful in your search, widen your enquiries to other communities that are in need of support from donations.
