How to Highlight in Dreamweaver CS5

Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 contains several inherent behaviors that can be applied to your Web page. One such behavior is the Highlight Effect, which offers a visual effect when an element on your page is clicked, moused over or otherwise manipulated. This affect is applicable on virtually any HTML element, such as paragraph tags, links or table cells. Dreamweaver also allows customization of the highlight effect to ensure you get the effect you need.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your HTML page in Adobe Dreamweaver.

    • 2

Click and drag your mouse over the element you wish to highlight.

    • 3

Hold the "Shift" key and press "F4" to open the Behaviors tab.

    • 4

Click the "+" sign on the Behaviors tab, point to "Effects" and select "Highlight." This opens a configuration window.

    • 5

Configure the highlighting effect to suit your needs. The top drop-down menu allows you to select a different tag, but the "<Current Selection>" option is the one you want. "Effect Duration" describes the number of milliseconds the effects lasts. For a one-second duration, enter "1000". The "Start Color" and "End Color" describe the transition effect, such as making the highlight start with white and end with red. The "Color After Affect" is the color that remains after the highlighting has completed. Check "Toggle Effect" to allow the effect to recur with subsequent activations.

    • 6

Click "OK" to apply your settings.

    • 7

Click "onClick" from the Highlight listing on the Behavior tag. Click the drop-down arrow to select a different event, such as "onMouseOver," which activates the highlight whenever the mouse moves over the selected area.

    • 8

Hold the "Ctrl" key and press "S" to save your changes.

    • 9

Upload the updated page, along with the automatically added "SpryAssets" folder, to make your changes take effect.
