How to Fray Burlap
Frayed burlap can be used for many different arts and crafts projects, including altered bookmaking and collage and for making homespun decor and holiday items. Luckily, it's easy to fray burlap, so you will not have to devote a lot of your crafting time to the task, and you most likely already have the tools you need to do the job.

Cut off the surged edge of the burlap off with scissors. A surged edge is one that has been hemmed by sewing loops of thread around the edges.

Use tweezers to pull the horizontal thread down. This will release the vertical threads, fraying the burlap.

Cut off the horizontal thread.

Continue removing horizontal threads until the burlap is frayed as you desire.
