  • Ribbon, 2-inches wide

  • Straight pins

  • Thread

  • Needle

Make a church lap cover using craft supplies.

When you attend church services regularly, you can make the day more elegant by using a lap cover. Lap covers can be purchased in a wide variety of colors and styles and are used to create a decorative barrier between your skirt and your Bible. You can customize your lap cloth by making it yourself using your favorite fabrics and ribbon trimmings. This enables you to make the lap cloth more personal and meaningful.

Step 1

Cut a piece of satin fabric with scissors to measure 24-inches on all sides.

Cut four pieces of 2-inch-wide ribbon with scissors to measure 24-inches long each.

Step 3

Pin a piece of ribbon along each edge of the satin square, using straight pins. Pin the corners together as well.

Step 4

Sew around the perimeter of the square, stitching together the edges of the ribbon to the edges of the satin square. Sew the edges of the corners together. Remove all of the straight pins.

Step 5

Trim off any excess thread using scissors before using the church lap cloth.

Tip

Select ribbon that is the same coloration as the satin fabric to create a more uniform lap cloth.
