How to Flock a Tree With Tide

Flocking enhances holiday trees.

Flocking a tree with a mixture of Tide and water makes the tree look like there was recently a snow storm. For variety, you can add small amounts of food coloring. A light blue is sometimes used in creating snow. Holiday decorations, small trees for the landscape around electric train sets and other snowy areas can be created. It saves the environment, too, in that you won't be using an aerosol can of spray snow.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix 1 cup of powdered detergent such as Tide with 1 or 2 tbsps. of water. Add water by the spoonful until it has the consistency of thick paste. It should not be liquid or runny. If you add too much water, simply add more detergent.

Use the paint brush to dab the mixture on the tops of the branches and needles or leaves. If it's a small decoration, allow some of the snow to fall to the ground underneath the tree.

Begin at the top of the tree and move down, applying the mixture to each branch and area that you want covered. Small amounts on ribbons and ornaments also look natural.
