If you have used the OverDrive Media Console on your Mac to download ODM audiobooks, you might not be certain how to use the application to play the audiobooks. The OverDrive Media Console is a free application that enables you to access public libraries or book retail websites over the Internet to browse and search for e-books and audiobooks, download them to your Mac, and then display the e-books or play the audiobooks. You can easily get started playing ODM audiobooks with the OverDrive Media Console on your Mac.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the OverDrive Media Console application on your Mac.

    • 2

Click "View All Media" under "Media Library" in the left pane of the OverDrive Media Console window.

    • 3

Click the title of an ODM audiobook to select it.

    • 4

Click "Play" button at the top of the OverDrive Media Console window to start playing the audiobook. The "OverDrive Media Explorer" window appears and the audiobook begins playing. Click the "Pause" button at the bottom of the "OverDrive Media Explorer" window to pause playback, and click the "Play" button to resume playback. Click the "Fast-Forward" button to skip ahead, and click the "Rewind" button to skip backwards in the audiobook.

Click the "Play Speed" pull-down menu at the bottom of the window (marked with an icon of four right-facing arrows), then click a playback speed such as "Slow," "Fast" or "Faster." This is useful when you are listening to an audiobook that is read by someone who speaks to slowly or quickly for your purposes.

Click the "Bookmark" icon, marked with a blue ribbon when you want to set a bookmark in your audiobook, then click "Add Bookmark." The "Define Bookmark" window appears, listing the time at which the bookmark will be set. Type a name for the bookmark in the "Name" text box, then click "OK." Click the "Bookmark" icon, and click "Manage Bookmarks" when you want to access your bookmarks.
