How to Take a Screenshot on a MacBook During a Movie

Taking screenshots from your desktop computer or laptop is a great way to capture images for a variety of purposes, one of them being still frames from movies. The Apple MacBook has a handy utility called Grab that allows you to take screenshots and customize each image. With Grab you can choose whether you want to take a screenshot of the entire screen, just a window, or crop your own custom image.

      Change the video playback program to window-mode if you are using it in full-screen mode. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this depending on the video playback program you are using. In most cases, you can hold the "Command" key and click within the video and a full-screen toggle option will appear within a menu. In other cases, you may need to click "Preferences" or "Options" within the menu to find the full-screen option.

      Open Grab by clicking the "Applications" folder, and then clicking the "Utilities" folder. The Grab utility will be within the Utilities folder.

      Click "Window" to take a screenshot of the video playback window.

      Click "Selection" to bring up a cross-hair that will allow you to select what portion of the screen you wish to capture in the screenshot.

      Click "Screen" to capture the entire screen.

      Click on an image and click the "File" tab at the top of the window, and then click "Save" to save any of the screenshot. It will be saved in the TIFF format.
