How to Get to Sootopolis City in "Pokemon Ruby"

Near the end of your adventure in "Pokemon Ruby" you must travel to Sootopolis City to battle for the last Gym Badge. Sootopolis City rests in the heart of a massive crater off the coast of the Hoenn mainland. To enter the city, you will need to use the Dive ability to navigate through the outer wall of the crater. Once you find the entrance, you can access the Sootopolis City Gym and a deep cave where a legendary Pokemon rests.

Instructions

    • 1

Fly to Mossdeep City, an island-based city in the eastern sea.

    • 2

Use the Surf ability to travel south onto Route 127. This route is home to wild Tentacool, Wingull and Pelipper ranging from levels 5 to 30. You can run from wildlife encounters, battle the Pokemon for experience points or spray Repel to travel without interruption. Rival trainers also inhabit the waters of Route 127. Most of their Pokemon are weak to Grass- and Electric-type attacks.

    • 3

Surf west onto Route 126, which contains the crater that holds Sootopolis City.

    • 4

Position yourself on the dark waters that encircle the crater.

    • 5

Use the Dive ability to go underwater. The seaweed in this area contains wild Clamperl, Chinchou and Relicanth that range from levels 20 to 35. These Pokemon are rare species and hold Shard items, which you can exchange for Evolution Stones.

    • 6

Swim to the south side of the crater and enter the cave opening.

    • 7

Use the Dive ability to resurface in Sootopolis City.

    • 8

Surf north to find the mainland of the city. In the center, you will find the Sootopolis Gym. To the west is a PokeMart. The local Pokemon Center is to the east. Travel north through the city to find the Cave of Origin, the home of Groudon.
