How to Replace a Direct TV Receiver With an HD DVR
Replace your old DirecTV receiver with a newer HD DVR model to unlock the expanded features of your satellite service. The HD DVR receiver allows you to view your programming in high-definition and record your favorite shows and specials right to the receiver's hard drive. Even though the HD DVR is more complex than a standard receiver, it will only take a couple of minutes to install the new set-top box to your home theater system.

Unplug the power cord from your old receiver and disconnect the coaxial cable attached to the "Satellite IN port on the rear of the receiver.

Remove any other cables connected to the receiver and pull the unit out of your home theater setup.

Place your new HD DVR receiver in your home theater setup. Fasten the coaxial cable to the Satellite IN port on the receiver.

Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the receiver and plug the other end into the HDMI IN port on the rear of your TV. Insert the power cord from your receiver into a nearby power outlet.
