How Is Pepsodent Toothpaste Made?

Ingredients

There are five types of Pepsodent toothpaste, sensitive, whitening with baking soda, tartar control, cavity protection and the original. The basic ingredients for Pepsodent toothpaste are: a humectant , binder, thickener, an abrasive, water, cleaning agent, tartar reducing agent, fluoride, flavor, sweeteners, color and a carrier. This would include sodium bicarbonate, sodium fluoride, sodium saccharin, potassium nitrate and glycerin.

Mixing

Each ingredient is measured into a mixing vat, the temperature is closely monitored. Each vat may hold up to 10,000 four ounce tubes of toothpaste. Once the mix is completed the mix is poured into the tubes. The tubes are cleaned before filling and the lids fastened on with the tube upside down. The tubes are then passed under the spouts where the toothpaste is inserted. The ends are rolled and sealed.

Tubes and cardboard boxes are printed with the Pepsodent logo, product information, ingredients, warnings, manufacturers address and the toll free number to call for more information. Once the tubes are filled and sealed, the next step is placing the tubes into the boxes, then into the shipping cartons. Each step is monitored to ensure product safety, security and quality.
