    ATV Tire Overview

  1. ATV tires are "All Terrain Vehicle" tires. They are made for ATVs, which are motorcycles with four wheels. They are also often called quads or four-wheelers. ATV tires are big, wide tires that are made to function in several types of off-road conditions that are typically encountered. There are different ATV tires for all kinds of terrains, including sand and mud. The different types of ATV tires work in slightly different ways.
  2. Mud Tires

  3. ATV mud tires work with irregular treads that have wide spaces. These treads enable maximum, strong, reliable grip for muddy and unpredictable conditions on the roads. This grip causes the ATV mud tires to work significantly better than a normal tire would work in the same muddy road situation.
  4. Paddle Tires

  5. Paddle tires are great ATV tires for dealing with sand and sand dunes on roads. Many people recognize these ATV tires due to their unusual appearances - the tires kind of resemble balloons and are smooth and have only a few raised treads. These few raised treads go horizontally across the face of the tire. They act as paddles, hence their name. They are designed to work well in sand, but are not advised for use in other types of terrain. They can be easily ruined by trail riding.
  6. Snow Tires

  7. Another type of ATV tire is a snow tire. Snow tires are smooth and have horizontal treads, but these treads happen to look very similar to snow chains. This snow chain pattern enables the tires to be able to grip even in a reverse situation. The tire compound is soft and stays easily shaped even in icy situations, allowing for a much easier grip.
  8. Trail Tires

  9. Trail tires are suitable for trail riding, which is one of the most common styles of ATV riding. In general, trail tires must be able to allow for mud or stones, which kind of designates them as all purpose ATV tires. Having said that, not all trails are the same. If you are in the desert, your riding situation will be vastly different than if you were riding in a wet region. Trail tires look a lot like mud tires but have tighter, closer packed treads and have simple patterns. Wide-spaced treads on trail tires are good if you live in a place where the terrain often gets muddy or snowy. Tighter, more rigid patterns are optimal for dirt areas.
