Verizon wireless broadband access allows you to access the Internet through the use of a wireless network card. A wireless card is a card that is inserted into your laptop allowing it to connect to the internet through your broadband service. Broadband services allow a user to connect to the Internet through the service provider's network by installing software to the PC. This creates mobility and gives the user access to high speed Internet services while working on the go. Verizon offers unlimited usage plans or plans that charge the user based on the amount of times they actually access the Internet. The plan that you choose depends on how often you will utilize Internet services.

Features

Verizon provides the software called VZAccess Manager that's necessary to install to your PC in order to have Internet access. Once this software is installed to your laptop, the program allows you to connect to the Internet. The software installs the drivers and authenticates the wireless card that you are using to connect to online services. These cards may be installed in a slot located inside of your computer or you may choose a USB card that simply plugs into the USB port in the back of your computer. Most users prefer the USB type because they are more simple to install.

Function

Once the Verizon software is installed on your PC, the Verizon software communicates with the wireless card to allow a connection. When you attempt to connect, the software authenticates your card's information so that Verizon can verify you are a subscriber to their services. The adapter contains a Wi-Fi antenna that transmits signals to the Verizon wireless network. In using a Wi-Fi signal, the Internet information is converted to radio signals. This process is similar to the ability of a radio signal to transmit to your home. These Wi-Fi signals are picked up by your computer and processed. You can then connect to the Verizon network and share Internet services with other users. Verizon's encrypted connections provide a secure network. Once you are connected to the Internet, the broadband service should operate at about 512Kbps or higher.
