    LED Bulbs

  1. LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, are an energy-efficient alternative to traditional fluorescent and incandescent bulbs, including those used in Christmas tree lights. LEDs work by electroluminescence, a process by which an electrical current passes through the diode and exciting the electrons within it. When these electrons become activated, they release their energy in the form of light, which illuminates through holes within the diode.
  2. Creating LED Christmas Tree Lights

  3. LEDs are a great substitute to traditional holiday lights. This is because they come in all sizes and colors. They can take on any color of the rainbow, and can also be made to produce white, infrared or ultraviolet light. Though there are many different types of LED lights, the ones used in the creation of Christmas tree lights are single-colored, meaning that the entire diode emits only one color. This does not, however, mean that you could not buy a strand of multi-colored LED Christmas tree lights, as every "bulb" is its own separate entity. So even though only one color can come out of each diode, every diode comprises only one Christmas light, and can therefore come in strands of multi-colored lights.
  4. Advantages

  5. There are numerous reasons why LEDs have been created and marketed specially as Christmas tree lights. They run significantly cooler than traditional lights, which cuts down on the amount of fires, burns, shocks and injuries that involve Christmas trees every year. Traditional lights are also less efficient and solid than their LED counterparts, meaning that they burn out and shatter more easily. In fact, LED lights can last up to five times as long as traditional Christmas lights. The Department of Energy estimates that LEDs can last for up to 50,000 hours, making them ideal for holiday lights as they're used for prolonged periods only once a year.
