Troubleshooting an RCA Ice Maker

Icemaker Condition

  • Check that there aren't too many items in your freezer and that the shut off arm is in the proper on position to produce ice. Make sure that the ice lever isn't bent and that when you flip it on and off that the switch in the RCA ice maker is rotating. If this switch is broke, then you will need to buy a new RCA ice maker motor--and buying an entirely new ice maker is easier.
Pull out your fridge from the wall. Make sure the electrical connection from the ice maker is securely attached to the electrical input compartment on the rear of your fridge. The water line to your ice maker should have a valve that is connected to the back part of your freezer. Rotate this valve off and then back on.

Water Lines

  • Unclamp the water line connected to the supply valve on the back of your fridge. Follow the water lines to the water supply. Turn off the water source control valve and unscrew the ice maker water line from the water source. Record the RCA ice maker model number and take the ice maker water supply hose to your local home supply or appliance store and order a new water line to install. Water lines can become clogged or kinked, and it is easier to buy new ones than fix old ones.

Ice Supply

  • If you do have ice, but it just smells or tastes bad, wash out your entire freezer and the ice maker tray. Again, replace the main water supply line as it may have mold in it. Replace your fridge water filter located after the supply valve on the back of your fridge.
